Bishop Hill Midsommar Music Festival takes place near Galesburg

It's going to be hot outside this weekend, but there are plenty of things to do in the Galesburg area.

Here are some things we found to do.

Food Truck Evening

What: These food trucks will be on site: Shaw Daddy's BBQ, Tacos and Thai, Innkeeper's, MB's Food Truck, Johnson's Smokehouse and Sweet Treats by Stacy – Ice Cream Truck.

When: 5:30 p.m. Friday

Jake Zuercher and Ethan Zulz

What: Welcome to Jake and Ethan, two local friends playing folk/Americana music at their first concert.

Dancing through the decades to beat Alzheimer's disease

What: Dance your way through the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and beyond while helping to end Alzheimer's disease. Get free dance lessons on the best dances of the decade, courtesy of All That Dance. Prizes for the best period costumes. Refreshments included. Dance the night away in the gym to raise awareness and funds to support Alzheimer's research.

When: 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday

Puppy Parade

What: Bring your well-behaved pups to the Knox County Nursing Home to join the parade. Gifts for all the puppies present. Costumes accepted. Donations will be collected for the Knox County Humane Society (dog/cat food, paper towels, cleaning supplies, toys, blankets and treats). Line up around the circle at 1:30 p.m. The public is also invited to come and enjoy it, even if you don't have a four-legged friend.

Bishop Hill Midsommar Music Festival 2024

What: The 2024 Bishop Hill Midsommar Music Festival is a family-friendly event that includes concerts in the park, a Swedish Maypole celebration and much more. Bring a lawn chair. Celebrate one of the most popular Swedish holidays. New Year's Eve celebrations date back to pre-Christian times. It has its roots in pagan rituals to welcome summer and the season of fertility.

When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday

Whisper

What: Sit back and enjoy wine, coffee or spirits while listening to music, from rock, pop and country to Americana and blues by Whisper.

Birthday Party: Crafts, Gifts & Collectibles Country Square Treasures

What: There will be outdoor vendors, food trucks and raffles during the first anniversary celebration.

Live music with Andy Busch

What: Listen to live music from Andy Busch on the patio. Bad weather will move the music indoors. Wine, beer and soda available. Food/snacks available for purchase. Guests aged 20 and under are permitted if accompanied by an adult.

Cat Café Adoption Event, Bake Sale and Silent Auction

What: This adoption event also includes a silent auction, bake sale, raffles and giveaways. Meet cats and kittens looking for a family and forever home. CASA photo treasure hunt

What: Bring your camera and your friends for an afternoon around Galesburg. CASA will send you after providing instructions at 1:00 p.m. Be back around 3:45 p.m. for snacks and the announcement of winners. All funds go to the defense of child victims of abuse and neglect.

When: 1 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Sunday

31st Annual Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing

What: Registration begins at noon and departure is scheduled for 1 p.m. Then stay for dinner, door prizes and the announcement of the winners. Limited number of teams of four available. Golf, greens, cart and meals included in registration.

When: 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday June 24

Family films

What: Come watch a family film related to the theme of summer reading: Read, Renew, Repeat. All films are rated G or PG. The June 26 film is called “Over the Hedge.”

Galesburg Rail Days Festival

What: Rail fans, their family and friends will enjoy a variety of activities at this festival, including the Galesburg Model Train Show, Chew Chew & Brew, Wilson Family Carnival, Train Watching, Community Fitness Fest, Western IL Antique Auto Club Car Show, tours of the Galesburg Railroad Museum, the BNSF Yard. VIP tours and tours, vendor lounge and more.

Opus by M. Holland

What: Mr. Holland's Opus (1995), rated PG, will be presented to benefit the Knox-Galesburg Symphony in honor of the Orpheum Theater's long-standing partnership with the symphony. All patrons and attendees are encouraged to make a donation to The Symphony in lieu of paying admission to the film. This heartwarming story about music, education, and perseverance is a perfect fit for the Knox-Galesburg Symphony. There will be another film to benefit the Symphony on July 13.

Throwback Thursdays: Coming Home

What: Watch the Seavers go on a family vacation to San Francisco. Before leaving, they drop off their pets, Chance (Michael J. Fox), an adventurous American bulldog; Shadow (Don Ameche), a wise golden retriever; and Sassy (Sally Field), a cautious cat, on a friend's ranch. When the animals begin to worry that they have been abandoned for good, they set off together on a perilous and exciting journey to find their way back through the California wilderness.
