Birmingham restaurant catches fire and closes indefinitely

A smoker at Moe's Original BBQ in Birmingham's popular Lakeview neighborhood caught fire Saturday afternoon.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to calls about a small fire at 731 29th St. S. at 2:37 p.m., Battalion Chief Chad Brodeur said at the scene.

Restaurant customers were evacuated and firefighters brought the flames under control within an hour. No one was hurt.

Moe's Original BBQ caught fire on Saturday June 15th.

Brodeur said firefighters tore out baseboards and put out fires in interior and exterior walls near the smokehouse at the rear of the restaurant.

Moe's employees said they would not know the cause of the fire until at least Monday. Around 4 p.m. on June 15, workers said the restaurant was closed until further notice.

Moe's Original BBQ opened in Lakeview in 2009. There are locations in 13 states and 21 throughout Alabama.
