Birmingham police investigating homicide near East Lake Park area Saturday

Nineteenth anniversary celebrations later tonight, but for now we want to return to WVTM 13 S AARON LLEWELLYN following the latest news on this homicide investigation. YEAH. JARVIS. So we're here on First Avenue, near Eastlake Park. Now what we know is that one man died tonight and two others are in the hospital, fighting for their lives. A man and woman are fighting for their lives in the hospital tonight after police say a shooting took place in that area. So I'm going to digress so I can give you a glimpse of the magnitude of this scene. THIS IS A VERY BIG SCENE BECAUSE THE POLICE ARE STILL INVESTIGATING WHAT HAPPENED THIS EVENING. So what we know is that Shotspotter alerted police to approximately 740 multiple gunshots. THERE ARE ABOUT 50, BUT THERE COULD BE MORE AS THE POLICE ARE STILL INVESTIGATING. Now, here on the road as you can see, there were two vehicles involved in an accident near Eastlake Park. OFFICERS ARRIVED AT A THIRD VEHICLE THAT WAS inside the park after believing that vehicle had driven through the park fence. Now when they got there, they found one man already dead inside the vehicle and two others who had managed to get out of the vehicle and had been shot. NOW THIS MAN AND WOMAN WHO WERE SHOT AND WAS OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE HAVE BEEN TAKEN TO HOSPITALS AGAIN, WHERE THEY ARE NOW FIGHTING FOR THEIR LIVES. The shooting took place between what police believe were several people who were in those cars, and they say they also found several guns near the cars and inside the cars. And they also believe that every person in those cars was involved in the shooting. Once again, there was an accident on the road here. Police do not believe these cars were involved in the shooting. THEY SAY THAT THE PERSON WHO WAS DRIVING ONE OF THESE VEHICLES WAS TRYING TO AVOID THE SHOTS AND ENDED UP CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. NOW, AGAIN, THE POLICE ARE STILL INVESTIGATING AND THEY SAY THEY WILL BE HERE FOR A WHILE PROCESSING THE SCENE, WATCHING EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. BUT AS WE CONTINUE TO GIVE YOU THESE OR GET THESE UPDATES FROM HERE ON FIRST AVENUE NEAR EAST LAKE PARK, WE WILL BRING THEM TO YOU. BUT THEY SAY IT’S A VERY BIG SCENE. So there are a lot of areas that are blocked here, and they will be blocked for a while. AND THEY SAY NOBODY HAS BEEN ARRESTED YET, AND THEY'RE STILL LOOKING FOR SEVERAL PEOPLE BECAUSE A LOT OF THESE VEHICLES THAT THEY HAVE FOUND HERE AT THE SCENE HAVEN'T HELD ANYONE, BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE THEY'VE GOT AWAY FROM THE SCENE BEFORE The police arrived. BUT AGAIN, WE WILL keep you posted as we receive these updates from the police. BUT FOR NOW WE
