Bibb sheriff still searching for suspect in downtown homicide

Sheriff David Davis said there is a reward for information leading to an arrest from Macon Regional Crime Stoppers.

MACON, Ga. — It's been nearly three weeks since Albert Knight, 59, was killed in a downtown Macon alley near the intersection of Poplar and Second Street.

Last week, 13WMAZ spoke with Rhonda Williams, assistant director of the Daybreak Day Resource Center, which helps Macon's homeless.

Williams confirmed that Knight was homeless and had spent the last few years coming to Daybreak daily.

“Ken Knight was a gentle man,” Williams said.

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office said Knight died from a severe head injury and was struck multiple times. After reviewing security camera footage from nearby businesses, they released video of a suspect they are looking for.

The sheriff's office said the suspect was a white man wearing glasses, a cap, a green shirt that may have read “Hilton Head Island Bike Shop” in white letters, denim jeans and shoes. black.

Williams said they held a memorial for Knight at Daybreak after his death.

“We were devastated. Absolutely, devastated because he was such a nice man, he kept to himself, didn't bother anyone,” Williams said.

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office told 13WMAZ there were numerous tips received and they followed up.

Sheriff David Davis said he spoke with local bus lines and businesses to ask them to keep an eye out for the suspect.

We asked Davis if he thought the suspect was local or from out of state, and he said all options were on the table right now.

Davis said they are encouraging area businesses to review their security footage before and after May 26 to see if they have additional video of the suspect.

They are asking anyone with information to come forward, no matter how small it may be.

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office said Knight was sleeping when he was attacked on May 26. They released a video showing who they are looking for as a suspect in the investigation. You can see this video here.

If you know anything about the Knight homicide or recognize the man in the video, you can call the Bibb County Sheriff's Office at 478-751-7500 or the regional Crime Stoppers Macon at 1-877-68CRIME.

Macon Regional Crime Stoppers is offering a reward to anyone with information leading to an arrest.
