Bhopal Metro: 373 landowners identified for land acquisition for Bhopal Metro | Bhopal News

English:Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) has identified 373 private title holders for land acquisition for the Bhopal Metro project. Unlike previous projects such as BRTS and Bhopal Smart City development, which did not offer any monetary compensation, MPMRCL is in line with international best practices due to the requirement of a $400 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB). During the Bhopal Metro project, compensation for all affected persons will be determined through ground photography and satellite imagery based on the size of the property as of the year 2020. This approach may come as a surprise to those who have recently expanded their properties in the hope of receiving higher compensation. Key processes such as Social Impact Assessment (SIA) and Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) are being prioritised. Since 2018, land acquisition for the first phase of the metro development, from stud farms to AIIMS Bhopal, has been smooth. Almost all of it was government land and minor encroachments. The net cost of land claim, including that of the Indian Railways, is estimated at around Rs 6 crore. The estimated budget for land acquisition and resettlement for the Bhopal Metro is Rs 446 crore. The development of the metro from the depot to Karond, passing through Bhopal railway station and other densely populated areas, involves these 373 private landowners. About 100 of them are tagged as big estates. Non-title holders, or those without records, will get all the benefits of compensation except the cost of land, sources said. “Where there are problems, teams have been formed under the respective ADMs to find an amicable solution,” said Bhopal Collector Kaushlendra Vikram Singh. Currently, the focus is on the construction of the Orange Line (from AIIMS to Karond Square). “There is no major resistance,” said an official leading the field survey. Soon, all the affected areas will have signboards indicating the route of the Metro development, he added. Local interests have been entangled in the resistance to land grabbing, sources said. Pool Boghda, Aishbagh, Galla Mandi, Bhopal Station, Nadra Bus Stand, Sindhi Colony, DIG Bungalow, Krishi Mandi are eight stations where corroboration is underway, as of February 2024.
