Best friends killed in Southside shooting, one injured

MILWAUKEE — Isaac, 15, and Diego Herrera, 16, were best friends. Today, their families mourn their vigil.

The two teens were side by side when they were killed in a shooting Saturday night near S. 8th Street and W. Manitoba Street, according to the Milwaukee Police Department.

Isaac died instantly. Diego was taken to hospital where he died from his injuries. He had just turned 16 and was killed while celebrating his birthday.

“He really liked basketball, he really liked spending time with his friends and his cousins,” said Rodrigo Herrera, Diego’s brother. “He was very nice, he has a kind soul and he gets along with everyone. He's just easy to get along with, you know?”

Emily Rocha, Diego's cousin, was the other teen shot in the incident. She was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is in stable condition.

A GoFundMe has been created to help families pay for funerals. Families want to group their funerals together and bury them side by side.

“Rest in peace Isaac and Diego!” » says the GoFundMe text. “You will truly be missed by many!”

Police are still searching for a suspect and witnesses told TMJ4 the shooter was on a scooter at the time of the crime.

The investigation is ongoing and MPD is searching for unknown suspects. Anyone with information can contact police at (414) 224-Tips.
