ILLINOIS — As we enter a new week, Patch has rounded up the stories you may have missed this weekend.

A community in a suburb mourned a teenager who died after an asthma attack, and his family remembered him as “funny, silly, goofy.”

Meanwhile, a man was fatally struck by a tractor-trailer less than 30 minutes after being released from jail, and another pedestrian was struck in another crash.

Additionally, a teenager was injured in a dirt bike accident, and police say a carjacker shot the victim through the windshield during an attempted carjacking.

Hours after playing a baseball game — then spending time with his siblings — a mother says her 13-year-old son died after an asthma attack. “You don't want to believe that,” she told Patch of her “funny, silly, goofy” prankster son. “No mom wants to go through that. It's a harsh reality right now.”

Inmate dies after leaving prison, police question semi-trailer driver

The tractor-trailer driver has not been charged in connection with the incident, which police said occurred less than 30 minutes after the 51-year-old man was released from the county jail. They say the truck driver didn't know he hit the pedestrian.

In a separate incident, police said a man crossing one of the city's busiest streets was struck by a vehicle Friday evening.

Shot fired through windshield during carjacking attempt: police

The victim said the carjackers followed him home from a Metra station parking lot, then blocked the car before one of the carjackers got out of the vehicle, brandished a handgun and fired a bullet into his windshield, police said. The bullet went through two windows of the car.

Police say she was driving behind a vehicle when she heard what sounded like a gunshot coming from the car. Officers then stopped the car and said they found an open tequila bottle and a spent shell casing, and police said the driver had gunshot residue on his hand.
