(KRON) — A 27-year-old man who was killed Friday in Belmont, leading to a homicide investigation, has been identified as Diontae Gayden, according to the San Mateo County Coroner's Office. He was an automotive technician and son from Belmont, according to a GoFundMe started by his family.

“We are deeply saddened to share the tragic news of the passing of Diontae Gayden,” the GoFundMe page wrote. Gayden, described as “dynamic and outgoing,” was a “beloved son” and a “darling grandson.” He was a technician at Autobahn Motors in Belmont, known for his “ever-present smile and kindness.” He touched many lives with his positivity and warmth.

On Friday evening, Gayden was shot “senselessly” in a Belmont neighborhood near Hiller and Irwin streets, the page writes. His family describes their neighborhood as “normally peaceful.” Despite the rapid response of paramedics, Gayden succumbed to his injuries at the scene, Belmont police said.

“This devastating incident has left a void in our hearts and has deeply affected our community. Belmont Police are diligently investigating, following multiple leads and believe this to be an isolated incident. However, the pain and fear caused by this tragedy will continue,” the GoFundMe page writes.

Now, Gayden's family is asking the community for help. Those wishing to donate to the family's GoFundMe can do so here. “Any contribution, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated,” the page writes.
