Bellevue Park shooting leaves 13-year-old dead, 13-year-old injured

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A shooting at Red Caboose Park in Bellevue left a 13-year-old dead and a 16-year-old taken to the hospital with injuries.

Don Aaron, a Metropolitan Police spokesman, said that shortly before 8 p.m. a fight broke out between two schoolgirls. Others started to join in, all teenagers, and someone pulled out a gun and started shooting in the middle of the arguing.

Aaron says two individuals, a brother and sister, were struck by gunfire. The 16-year-old went to the nearby fire station and collapsed while calling for help. Police found his 13-year-old brother, who had been shot multiple times, and rushed him to Vanderbilt, where he died.

The 16-year-old shared information that helped police find and apprehend a potential suspect.

“He’s detained, he’s in custody and he’s going to be questioned,” Aaron said.

He also said there was no danger to the community as they had the situation under control.

Mayor Freddie O'Connell shared his condolences to the families who lost loved ones.

This is an ongoing situation – we will update you as soon as we have more information.

I think we can all remember our favorite teachers. In many ways, they leave an imprint on our lives. Get your tissues ready for Forrest Sanders' story about Mrs. McMurray. She has invested so much in her students, and they return her love when they need it most.
