Bella and Gigi Hadid to donate $1 million to Palestinian relief

Model sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid are joining together to make a generous donation to several humanitarian organizations supporting Palestine.

The Hadids will split a $1 million donation between four different organizations supporting the Palestinian people during Israel's continued assault on Gaza since the October 7 Hamas attack. The money will be given equally to HEAL Palestine, the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund (PCRF), World Central Kitchen (WCK) and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), according to several reports. The four organizations work to provide food and medical aid to displaced or affected Palestinians throughout the conflict.

Both Bella and Gigi Hadid have expressed their support for Palestine in recent months, proudly showing their support for their Palestinian heritage. Their father, Mohamed Anwar Hadid, is Palestinian.

Even before the October 7 Hamas attack, Bella Hadid had openly supported Palestine and often shared her story on her personal social media page. In May, Bella reposted the slides from AJ+ detailing the 1948 ethnic cleansing of Palestine called the Nakba. Bella wrote that she is “the child of a Nakba survivor, grandchild of grandparents who lived through the Nakba and were never able to return home.” She went on to say that even in 2024, Palestinians are “brutalized, terrorized, tortured and killed.”

“I am devastated by the loss of the Palestinian people and the lack of empathy from government systems around the world,” Bella wrote. “Do better for everyone involved or leave office.” Do not be desensitized to the horrific images you witness. It's real. That's life.”

Gigi Hadid also shared her own support for Gaza on her Instagram page and expressed her condolences following the October 7 Hamas attack, calling it an “unjustifiable tragedy.” She also added: “While I have hopes and dreams for Palestinians, none of them include harm to a Jewish person.

Bella Hadid's support for Palestine has not wavered, even while attending the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in the south of France last month. At one of the festival's many events, Bella wore a dress made from the same pattern and fabric as a Palestinian keffiyeh from Michael and Hushi's February 2001 fashion show. Hadid shared her thoughts on wearing this special garment and the symbolism woven into it in an Instagram post.

“Even though I still have to go to work, even despite this horror, carrying our culture makes me a proud Palestinian and I want the world to continue to see Palestine, wherever we go,” Hadid wrote. “A beautiful way to represent history, labor of love, resilience, and most importantly, the art of historic Palestinian embroidery. »
