Beauregard District 2 fire chief resigns

DERIDDER, La. (KPLC) – We have more information about the emergency meeting called last night by the Beauregard Fire District 2 Board of Directors, during which little was revealed about employment future district fire chief.

The firefighters were there to support him, but shortly after, the board went into executive session.

Once the board returned from executive session, the meeting was adjourned, leaving us all wondering what had happened.

Board Chairman Matt Gillespie spoke to us about Baggett's employment situation and he tells us that Baggett sent a letter of resignation to the board after last night's meeting.

Gillespie says he is meeting with Deputy Chief Anthony Broxson and the district's battalion chief to discuss how operations will continue.

As for whether the board will vote at the next meeting to accept Baggett's resignation, Gillespie says the agenda for the June meeting has not yet been set.

We asked Gillespie what led the board to review Baggett's contract at that time, as well as why the board felt the issue warranted an emergency meeting. We also asked if any complaints or disciplinary action had been taken regarding Baggett.

Gillespie said he could not comment on these matters at this time.
