Bears offensive weapon surprisingly mentioned as possible candidate for removal

Training camp is fast approaching and that means franchises will soon have to make some tough decisions.

There are still many free agents looking for their next opportunities. There will likely be a slew of moves in the near future as teams add free agents, but there will also be plenty of subtractions.

National Football League franchises will eventually have to downsize and there could be some surprising players. One player who has been mentioned as a possible cut candidate is Chicago Bears running back Khalil Herbert, according to Alex Kay of Bleacher Report.

“Khalil Herbert may be the standout guy when the Chicago Bears break the logjam in their backfield,” Kay said. “After agreeing to a three-year, $24.5 million deal with D'Andre Swift, who projects to lead a platoon that also includes 2023 fourth-round pick Roschon Johnson, the Bears will have a tough time keeping Herbert as a player. little used depth option.

The 26-year-old is playing the final year of his rookie contract and is expected to hit the open market next spring. Although he only has a modest $1.1 million cap hit, the team could better use the squad space to complete a team hopes to finally emerge from a reconstruction in 2024.”

This doesn't guarantee that Herbert will be cut this summer, but it's interesting that he was mentioned. He had 611 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns last season in 12 games played. He added 134 yards through the air as well as another touchdown on a career-high 20 receptions.

He's been solid over the past three years with the Bears, but it appears his time with the team could be coming to an end in the near future.
