Bear cub rescued by Colorado wildlife officials near Evergreen

A bear cub stuck in a metal fence near Evergreen was rescued Saturday by Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials and reunited with its mother.

The black bear cub got stuck in a fence and, while his mother was in a nearby tree, she was unable to save him, Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials said in an article on X.

Officers sedated the sow with a tranquilizer so it would not interfere with their rescue efforts and held the cub with a capture stick while they freed it from the fence.

In a video released by the agency, officers are seen restraining the snarling bear cub and running through the fence in less than a minute before releasing the cub.

Officers then hazed the sow and her calf with K9 Officer Samson to ensure they would not return and get stuck in the fence. A video shows Samson barking at the bears as they retreat into the forest.

The encounter was “a complicated rescue with a happy ending,” CPW officials said in an article on X.
