Bayern Munich failed to sign Spanish teenage sensation

Spain has been one of the best teams in Euro 2024. The Spanish team plays an attractive style of football, dominating possession and being both direct in attack. FC Barcelona's Lamine Yamal was one of Spain's stars in both group matches. The teenager was courted by Bayern Munich before breaking through to FC Barcelona.

According to Sky Sports, Bayern had Yamal as one of their top transfer targets when he was 14 years old. Hasan Salihamidzic and Marco Neppe were eager to bring Yamal to Munich. They had concrete discussions with the player's representatives, but he ultimately decided to stay at FC Barcelona.

Die Roten was right about Yamal's potential. The 16-year-old has been Barcelona's only bright spot during a dismal season, scoring ten goals in 22 La Liga matches.

Yamal has already established himself as a key player for Spain. Bayern would have hit the jackpot if they had convinced him to join in 2022. Jamal Musiala and Yamal would have been the face of Bayern for several years in two crucial positions.

Bayern continues to focus on recruiting the best young talents from around the world before they become superstars. They may not recruit all the top talent, but the approach remains aggressive when it comes to recruiting young people.

The emphasis on signings and youth development was taken to the next level following the arrival of Christoph Freund. The Austrian sporting director is renowned for signing brilliant young players for RB Salzburg. He has already helped Bayern land the signing of highly-rated Australian winger Nestory Irankunda. The young winger is expected to train with the first team and get playing time with the reserve team next season.

Bayern also tried to sign Assan Ouédraogo from Schalke this summer. However, the transfer was not financially feasible for Die Roten. The youngster joined RB Leipzig. Rekordmeister will certainly follow its development closely. Besides several senior signings, Bayern will be busy with youth signings this summer as they would not want to miss out on another Yamal.
