Bay College moves into new welding lab near Iron Mountain campus

Bay College is pleased to announce the relocation of the Iron Mountain Campus Welding Lab to a new, expanded space. This move provides Bay College with more opportunities to offer courses and training at times that meet the local and regional needs of students, as well as employers.

Previously, Bay College had used the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District (DIISD) welding lab for over twenty years, through a strong and stable partnership. With the growing need for additional courses and custom training requirements from local employers, Bay College needed to move to a more flexible and versatile space. Bay College will continue its dual enrollment and early college courses at DIISD, but will now offer its traditional welding program at the new location.

After touring several facilities and buildings and working with local businesses, the Bay College Welding Lab has settled into its new temporary location at 1900 North Stephenson Avenue in Iron Mountain. The facility, adjacent to Neuens Landscaping, was carefully studied and, after several meetings, was determined to be the ideal space. Cindy Gallagher, Bay College, Vice President of Business, Technology, Allied Health and Workforce, said the physical location of the property relative to campus was one of the most important factors in the decision.

“The new welding lab is close to Bay College’s Iron Mountain campus, allowing students to continue to have easy access to campus facilities and resources available to them,” Gallagher said. “We were grateful to have several local companies willing to work with us on possible spaces so we could continue to deliver and expand our welding offerings in Dickinson/Iron County.”

“The main goal of the welding program is to provide students with a solid foundation to enter the industry and build a successful career in welding,” adds Nick DuPont, Full-time welding instructor at Bay College. “Students who enroll in the Bay College welding program can count on welding training that they can use to obtain employment locally, nationally, or even transfer to a university to continue their education in a four-year institution.

Bay College is committed to providing high-quality welding education in Iron Mountain, and moving into the new facility is another step toward the future.

Bay College will launch the fall 2024 semester with classes beginning August 26.
