Barcelona sign teenager on five-year deal – ready for first team next season

Barcelona teenager Hector Fort has committed his future to the club by signing a new five-year contract. The 17-year-old is only legally allowed to sign for three years before Aug. 2, when he turns 18, when Fort's deal will likely take effect.

Fort made his debut this season under Xavi Hernández and impressed in his 10 appearances, recording three assists and playing in high-pressure situations against Athletic Club de San Mames and Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano.

According to Sport, he will join the first team next season, under new manager Hansi Flick, and although he is a right-back, he will compete with Alejandro Balde for the left-back position. They say the deal was signed on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. CEST, after which he looked through the club's official photos.

Fort had just one year left on his contract this summer and a release clause of just €6 million, which has undoubtedly attracted the attention of Europe's top clubs. However, the Blaugrana have retained another of their top talents, having done the same with Pau Cubarsi. With Fort yet to prove himself in the first team, it remains to be seen whether Flick will give the youngsters the same chances as Xavi.
