Barbour County teen killed in crash near Valley Head

VALLEY HEAD, W.Va. (WBOY) – A Barbour County teenager is dead following a car crash involving three separate vehicles near Valley Head on Sunday.

According to a release from the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, on June 23, officers responded to U.S. Highway 219 along Seneca Trail between Valley Head and Huttonsville for a multi-vehicle crash.


When crews arrived on scene, they found that three vehicles were involved and two of them had “significant front-end damage.” Firefighters on site managed to free one person from the rubble, who did not survive.

The deceased was identified as Keaton McDermott, 18, a recent graduate of Philip Barbour High School who had committed to West Virginia Wesleyan College to attend classes.

The others involved in the crash were taken to Davis Medical Center for further treatment. Crews from the West Virginia State Police, Huttonsville-Mill Creek Fire Department, Randolph County EMS and Shavers Fork Fire and Rescue responded to the scene.

A vigil is being held for McDermott Monday evening, 12 News will report on it on our newscast at 11 p.m.
