Bank of America robbery suspect identified, bail set at $30,000

McALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The suspect in a McAllen bank robbery has been identified by police.

At 1:54 p.m., authorities responded to a disturbance in progress at the Bank of America located in the 7500 block of N. 10th Street, according to the McAllen Police Department.


The report's author told dispatch that a man walked in, handed the teller a note and said he was being held hostage.

The man told the teller to withdraw $9,000 and said if the transaction was not completed, a person would come inside and shoot everyone, the release states.

Responding officers spoke with the bank branch manager who pointed the man out and escorted him away. When authorities spoke with the man, he said he “was desperate” and implicated himself as a suspect, according to McAllen police.

No injuries were reported during the incident, according to police.

The suspect was identified as Jeremy Lee Castaneda, 29, a resident of Ediburg.

Castaneda was charged with theft and making a false report. He was arraigned Tuesday and given a $30,000 bond.
