Bamberg Co. Sheriff's Department receives grant for bulletproof vests

Bamberg, SC (WOLO) — The Bamberg County Sheriff's Department will be able to protect and serve while staying a little safer thanks to a 9 state-funded body armor assistance grant $266. The money will allow the department to purchase five bulletproof vests for its deputies to use in the field.

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety's Office of Highway Safety and Justice Programs, or OHSJP, and the South Carolina General Assembly have designated a one-time state fund to assist agencies law enforcement in the region to better access this equipment.

Bamberg County Sheriff Kenneth Bamberg released a statement regarding the grant, explaining how extremely important it is for his deputies to be able to obtain this type of equipment to help them do their jobs efficiently and now a little more in security. His statement saying: “Quality body armor is an essential element of effective law enforcement. We are extremely grateful to the SC Department of Public Safety (SCDPS) as well as the Bamberg County administrators who collaborated on this effort. My deputies and I are committed to serving the citizens of Bamberg County, and these new vests will help us in that effort while providing an added level of protection.
