Babbling Creek Drive shooting: Byron Keith Hall charged with murder of woman after allegedly shooting at police officers in Kingwood

KINGWOOD, Texas (KTRK) — Byron Keith Hall is accused of killing a woman at a Kingwood home and shooting at responding officers Sunday, according to police.

The 29-year-old woman is charged with the murder of Taylor Jewell Ben after Houston police found her body in a home and two children hiding in a closet.

Hall went outside the home at 3702 Babbling Creek Drive.

“It appeared that (Hall) was waiting outside in an ambush, waiting for officers to arrive to shoot them,” said HPD Asst. » said Chef Jessica Anderson. “The officer's vehicle was shot approximately seven times. Officers reported multiple calibers. We found pistols and short-barreled shotguns at the scene.”

No officers were injured and, according to HPD, none returned fire.

On Monday, gunshot wounds damaged the side of the two-story house, which neighbors said had been rented just two months ago.

Dean Camino is a neighbor who heard the gunshots Sunday afternoon. He has lived in the neighborhood for 20 years.

He told Eyewitness News he heard two gunshots, noting the second shot sounded like it was from a semi-automatic rifle.

“I heard gunshots. I didn't know if it was someone shooting firecrackers or what,” Camino said. “(It’s) pretty crazy because nothing happens like that here.”

Hall has not yet appeared before a judge, but prosecutors have already requested bond conditions that would keep him away from the victim's family, who witnessed the crime, and the Babbling Creek Drive home.

Christian Jorgensen lived around the corner and heard the gunshots. He later realized it had happened in a house his family had rented for four years.

“The next thing you know, a few shots ring out, then ten shots, and I was like, ‘This must be something pretty serious.'” Jorgensen said. “It was quite shocking. I actually found out this morning that it was a house that my parents lived in here. It was quite sad, you know.”

Court records reveal Hall was granted a deferred judgment for assaulting a public servant in 2017 and was charged with indecent assault last year.

He now faces charges of murder, aggravated assault of a family member and aggravated assault of a public servant. He is in jail and is due in court on Wednesday, May 29.
