Avon man arrested on drug distribution charges

An Avon man is facing charges that he recently distributed drugs in Elyria and throughout Lorain County, according to a news release from the Elyria Police Department.

Derrick Jackson, 29, of Avon, faces two counts of juvenile drug trafficking, first-degree felonies; one count of drug possession, a first-degree felony; one count of drug possession, a second-degree felony; and one count of possessing weapons while under disability, a third-degree felony, the release said.

The Elyria Police Department, with assistance from the Avon Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, executed a residential search warrant on May 30 in the 1500 block of Crab Apple Lane in Avon, according to the press release.

This action was part of an ongoing drug investigation into Jackson, who is suspected of distributing drugs throughout Lorain County and the City of Elyria, the release states.

The search warrant resulted in the seizure of more than $15,000, a firearm and more than 4.5 ounces of various drugs, including heroin and cocaine, according to the release.

Jackson was transported to the Lorain County Jail, where he will remain pending his initial appearance in Avon Lake Municipal Court, the release states.

“This operation underscores our commitment to working with other law enforcement agencies to combat drug-related crimes that threaten the safety and well-being of our communities,” the police chief said. of Elyria, Bill Pelko, in the release. “We will continue to work diligently to rid our streets of illegal drugs and bring those responsible to justice. »
