Authorities won't search landfill for missing man due to lack of evidence: CMPD

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Authorities continue to search for the body of missing Belmont man Andrew Tench, however, the dump where the suspect said he put the body will not be searched, according to the Charlotte Police Department. Charlotte-Mecklenburg.

On Monday, June 24, police said: “Based on the information provided by experts on the operations and size of the landfill, there is insufficient evidence to justify the excavation of this site. »

Tench, 31, was first reported missing on Monday, March 25, 2024. On April 11, police charged D'Shaun Montrell Robinson, 31, in connection with Tench's disappearance.

Court documents released Friday, April 12 revealed that while CMPD was questioning Robinson, he told authorities that Tench was dead. Robinson explained that “he threw the victim in the trash and did not notify law enforcement of the death.”

Search for missing Belmont man

Recently, Tench's mother created a change.org link to a petition asking authorities to search the Anson County landfill for her son's body. However, police say they have consulted experts who believe there is not enough evidence to search the site.

CMPD also says there is no corroborating information regarding Robinson's account of the events leading up to Tench's disappearance.

“I understand the weight of grief, anxiety and heartbreak that a mother or any parent would feel when their child goes missing and cannot move on. You want answers. As a mother myself, I understand,” said CMPD Deputy Chief Tonya Arrington. “We will continue our efforts to achieve resolution and closure for Andrew’s mother, his family and this investigation.”

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
