Authorities respond to house fire near I-95 in Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD, Florida. – Authorities responded to a house fire in Hollywood Tuesday afternoon.

It happened near the 2900 block of Wiley Street, a few blocks from Interstate 95.

Sky 10 flew over the scene at 4:15 p.m. where firefighters were battling the blaze aboard a ladder truck.

Authorities confirmed the home was vacant at the time of the fire and no injuries or medical transports were reported.

Luke Ormston lives with his parents in the house next door to the house that caught fire.

“We got home as fast as we could and we couldn’t even get here,” Ormston said. “I was having a total panic attack.”

Local 10 News acquired recordings from the home that reveal several restrictions on the lawn and parking, such as a ban on accumulating “bulky and yard waste on any private property,” dating back to 2022.

The fire does not appear to have spread as smoke continues to billow onto Interstate 95 between Pembroke Road and Hollywood Boulevard.

A Local 10 News viewer sent cellphone video of the thick smoke billowing into the air.

A Local 10 News crew arrived on scene just before 5 p.m., where Hollywood Fire crews were tending the fire with water pumps.

Neighbors say an elderly man who lives in the house has a habit of storing trash in his yard.

“I thought we were going to be homeless today, because if this (house) catches fire, then this (trash) might catch fire,” Ormston said.

With much of the house destroyed by the fire, neighbors expressed concern for the man who lives there.

“He was driving a small car, he had stuff everywhere, in the car, out of the car,” said neighbor Kelly Burgess. “An elderly citizen, minding his own business, was not bothering anyone. This was bound to happen sooner or later, it was just shocking that it was happening now.

Local 10 News has reached out to Hollywood Fire Rescue for more information.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
