Authorities continue to search for missing swimmer

Ottumwa rescue workers are still searching the Des Moines River and riverbanks for a swimmer who went missing Sunday. The Ottumwa Police Department received a report around 4:30 p.m. Sunday of a missing man who was last seen swimming in the river. He was in the river earlier in the day with a group of people near the Highway 34 overpass near the JBS Ottumwa Plant. A search began Sunday evening and personnel from the Wapello County Sheriff's Office, Ottumwa Fire Department, Eldon Fire Department and Iowa DNR are still searching the river and embankments. The identity of the man has not been released at this time. time.
