Authorities confirm human remains found are those of missing Michigan woman

In April of this year, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office became aware of a missing person's report filed in Michigan regarding 25-year-old Sara Arlene Filiatraut. Filiatraut's family said his last known location was in Lyon County on March 21.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office immediately began an investigation to find the missing woman.

Investigators found human remains in Churchill County, Nevada on May 22, 2024. The Lyon County Sheriff's Office, Churchill County Sheriff's Office and the County Search and Rescue Team Churchill all worked together on the research, which relied on lines of inquiry.

The remains were eventually identified as those of Ms. Filiatraut by the Washoe County Medical Examiner on May 23. Although the cause of death is still pending a final autopsy report, law enforcement is treating this as a homicide.

All three sheriff's offices are working together on the ongoing investigation, with assistance from the Washoe County Sheriff's Office forensic team. No further details will be released at this time to protect the investigation.

If anyone has information about this case, they should contact the Lyon County Sheriff's Office by phone at 775-463-6600 or by email at [email protected].
