Authorities believe child missing for years is in northeast

Puerto Rico authorities are investigating the case of Rolando Salas Jusino, a four-year-old boy who disappeared in Toa Alta 25 years ago. Law enforcement suspects he may be in the northeastern United States, according to Telemundo Puerto Rico.

The child was last seen playing in a park in Urb. Colinas De Plata in Tao Alta at 4 p.m. on July 7, 1999, Telemundo Puerto Rico reported. He was last seen wearing a green T-shirt with dark shorts and black and white tennis shoes, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Alexis Torres, secretary of the Department of Public Security of Puerto Rico, and Laura Peña, director of Interpol, are investigating a 29-year-old man living outside Puerto Rico who has characteristics similar to those of Jusino, Telemundo Puerto Rico reported.

Robert Ramos, the head of Puerto Rico's criminal investigation agency, told Telemundo New England that the person they believe to be Jusino resides in one of the states on the northeast coast of the United States.

This is the first time that Puerto Rico police have found a specific location for a search area in the Jusino case, Telemundo Puerto Rico reported. Previous reports suggested that Jusino was dead and buried elsewhere, or living in the Dominican Republic, while others said he was in the United States, according to the outlet.

In January, Puerto Rico authorities received information that a 29-year-old adult had features similar to Jusino's, Telemundo Puerto Rico reported. Authorities are also looking for someone with a birthmark similar to hers.
