Augusta teen jailed for murder after friend dies in shooting

An Augusta teenager was arrested Saturday on murder charges for his involvement in a shooting that left his friend dead in November.

Frashawn Sankoh, 18, went to Glenn Hills Drive in November with Isaiah McKnight, 20, of Hephzibah. Both men were armed and shot at two other individuals, who returned fire and killed McKnight, authorities said.

Sheriff's investigators identified Sankoh and the victim as those who started the shooting. Another teen – Rashaun McAllister, 19 – was identified as the getaway driver.

It appears the person who shot and killed McKnight was never charged in a possible self-defense case. The Richmond County Sheriff's Office does not discuss homicide cases or answer questions about possible motives.

But jail records show Sankoh was arrested Saturday on charges of murder and aggravated assault. McAllister is still wanted on the same charges, but no wanted flyers or photos have been released on the murder suspect.

At the time of the killing, authorities said McKnight was shot and later died at Wellstar MCG Health. A sheriff's report says officers first responded around 1 p.m. Nov. 5 to the 3600 block of Goldfinch Drive in reference to a shooting victim, where they found McKnight. The initial shooting was later discovered to have taken place at Claudia Drive and Glenn Hills Drive. Sankoh lives on Claudia Drive, according to booking records.

Ironically, Sankoh and McAllister were spotted together a week ago in Columbia County, where they were identified during an investigation into a car burglary on Applecross Drive in Martinez. Both men denied being inside the victim's vehicle, according to a CCSO report.
