Auburn man charged with murder after stabbing teen | Police/Firefighters

A 21-year-old man faces a preliminary charge of murder after the death of an Auburn teen.

Coltin Drew Herzog of Auburn was accused of stabbing 17-year-old Blake Boese. The Auburn teen was found unconscious and suffering from stab wounds after police were called to 1108 Irene Street around 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Police responded after the dispatcher received a 911 call reporting a possible stabbing. Officers and first responders attempted to provide life-saving medical treatment, but were unsuccessful.

Boese was pronounced dead at the scene by the DeKalb County Coroner's Office.

Around 11:45 p.m. Thursday, Indiana State Police announced that Herzog had been arrested and charged.

Investigators said they believe the stabbing was an isolated incident between Herzog and Boese, state police said in a news release.

The DeKalb County Prosecutor's Office asked Indiana State Police detectives to lead the investigation. These detectives are assisted by a state police crime scene investigator, Auburn police, coroner's office and district attorney's office.

The investigation remains active, officials said in a statement released Thursday evening. Once completed, it will be turned over to the DeKalb County Prosecutor for review.

Herzog's eventual release bond will be determined by a judge at an upcoming hearing, according to online court records. No hearing had been scheduled as of Friday afternoon.
