Attleboro man accused of fatally stabbing his brother

A man was arrested in Attleboro for allegedly fatally stabbing his brother early Monday morning, officials said.

James McCormick, 51, is charged with assault with intent to murder and battery, the Bristol County District Attorney's Office said in a statement.

Attleboro police were called to the area between 5 and 6 Melissa Drive for a disturbance around 3:25 a.m., the district attorney's office said.

Police found Richard McCormick, 47, of North Attleborough, outside of 5 Melissa Drive with multiple stab wounds. He was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

James McCormick is being held overnight and is expected to be arraigned Tuesday morning in Attleboro District Court, the prosecutor's office said.

The incident remains under investigation by State Police, the Bristol County Prosecutor's Office and Attleboro Police.

No further information was released Monday afternoon.
