Atmore man arrested on drug charges

An Atmore man was arrested May 27 on drug charges and trying to evade charges, officials say.

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a statement that Corderela Dirden, 36, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a pistol, attempted escape and possession of drug paraphernalia .

McMann said that around 11:15 a.m. on the day of the arrest, an APD officer was on routine patrol when he observed Dirden walking in the area of ​​Jack Springs Road.

“The officer knew Dirden had felony warrants with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office,” McMann said. “When the officer called Dirden to come talk to him, Dirden fled on foot.”
McMann said Dirden was then arrested after a brief foot chase.

“After arresting Dirden, the officer discovered Dirden was in possession of a handgun and a glass pipe containing crystal residue that tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said.

Dirden was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
