Atlantic City shooting: Yanirah Davis, Yontay Cooper arrested after 11-year-old shot in South Jersey over Memorial Day weekend

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey (WPVI) — Two women were arrested Sunday for allegedly shooting an 11-year-old child over Memorial Day weekend in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

It happened shortly before 10:30 p.m. Saturday along the 100 block of North Rhode Island Avenue.

Police were called to the scene after receiving reports that a juvenile had been shot. When they arrived, police said they found an 11-year-old boy with a gunshot wound.

The boy was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Through an investigation, authorities identified Yanirah Davis, 22, and Yontay Cooper, 33, as suspects in the shooting.

Police say the two women came onto the street with a hammer and a handgun to meet a group with whom they had previously had an altercation.

They allegedly began smashing the window of a vehicle with the hammer, then shooting at the group.

One of the shots entered a residence, police said, and that's how the 11-year-old was hit.

On Sunday, Davis and Cooper were arrested for their alleged roles in the shooting.

Both women were charged with 10 counts of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, endangering the welfare of a child and conspiracy .
