Atlanta Fire Lieutenant Arrested in Drunk Driving Crash That Killed Baby Hours After Baby Shower – WSB-TV Channel 2

ATLANTA — An Atlanta Fire Department lieutenant was arrested after being accused of drunken driving before a crash that investigators say resulted in the death of a baby.

The accident happened just hours after the baby's parents' baby shower.

Last week, Michele Newell, Channel 2 Cobb County bureau chief spoke to Eunice and Alex Gyasi, who were also seriously injured in the crash on Humphries Road on December 20, 2023.

Eunice Gyasi was sleeping when Williams entered their car, police said. Investigators determined he was driving more than 30 mph over the speed limit.

The couple had attended a surprise baby shower at their church when Williams crashed into their car. Eucnice Gyasi was nine months pregnant with their daughter, Evangela, at the time.

Both Gyasi were taken to hospital, where doctors were able to deliver the baby by emergency cesarean section. Baby Evangela only survived 28 minutes.

Investigators said Williams admitted he had been drinking when he crashed his vehicle in Austell. Police said they found alcohol in Williams' car at the time of the crash. Williams now faces charges of vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated.

Channel 2 Action News requested Williams' photo. We also contacted the Atlanta Fire Department for a statement.
