The victim has been identified as a woman. The circumstances surrounding her death are unclear. Investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, as well as state investigators, are now involved in the investigation into the fire and the woman's death.

There was little apparent damage to the exterior of the home, other than a hole in the roof, but fire investigators say the damage inside the home is “significant.”

The woman's body was found inside the house, but not near where the fire apparently started.

“There were neighbors who came to the house, knocked on the door, tried to see if anybody was home at the time,” Arapahoe County Sheriff's spokeswoman Ginger Delgado said.

The house is located in the eastern Colorado town of Watkins on North Bersshine Street, in a neighborhood south of Interstate 70.

Authorities said there was no threat to residents in the neighborhood.
