Assault with a deadly weapon nets man six years in prison

Following is the Tehama County District Attorney's Sentencing Memo from July 2.

CPD – People vs. Travis Justin Hall, (24CR693); PC245(a)(1), Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a felony.

Brief History: After a verbal altercation with the victim, the defendant threatened to hurt the victim with a screwdriver and made stabbing motions at the victim. Officers located the defendant and a large screwdriver was located on his person.

Sentenced to 6 years in state prison. The Corning Police Department investigated this case.

CPD People vs. Benjamin Palafox(23CR946); PC243.4, Sexual Battery, a felony; PC136.1(a)(1), Deterring a Witness, a felony.

Brief History: The defendant sexually assaulted the victim while she was asleep in her bed. The victim informed her family of the incident, and they reported it to law enforcement, which led to the investigation and apprehension of the defendant. Sentenced to 4 years in state prison.

The Corning Police Department investigated this case.

RBPD – People vs. David Valero Luna Meza, (24CR551); VC2800.2, Fleeing a pursuing Peace Officer, a felony.

Brief History: A deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the defendant for speeding. The defendant fled, leading deputies on a prosecution. The defendant ultimately crashed the vehicle and fled on foot. He was later apprehended by law enforcement.

Sentenced to 16 months in state prison. The Red Bluff Police Department investigated this case.

Brief history: The defendant and victim were in a dating relationship. After a verbal altercation as the victim was leaving the residence, the defendant fired three rounds in his direction. The victim recorded the incident on his phone. The victim was uncooperative with the prosecution.

Sentenced to 5 years suspended state prison, three years formal probation, 180 days in county jail, and 80 hours of community service.

This case was investigated by the Tehama County Sheriff's Office.
