Ashford teenager Kalel Davies from Folkestone Basketball Academy at Turner Schools secures three-year professional contract to play in Germany with BC Bremerhaven

A teenager is heading to Germany after securing a three-year contract to play for professional club BC Bremerhaven.

Turner sixth year student Kalel Davies, who recently completed his BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport, represented the school during his time at the Academy.

Ashford teenager Kalel Davies, of Folkestone Basketball Academy, has landed three contracts in Germany with professional club BC Bremerhaven.

The 18-year-old from Ashford honed his skills at the school's Folkestone Basketball Academy, run by Mark Hinton and The Sports Trust, where he played, coached and was also an ambassador.

Davies has been dedicated to the sport since a young age, having also played for Folkestone Saints Basketball since he was a junior.

Today his commitment has been recognized by BC Bremerhaven.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity I’ve been given,” he said.

“I am very grateful for everything the Folkestone Academy and my coaches, Mark Hinton and Stuart Hunt, have done to develop my skills in the short time I have been playing and for their work in helping me get into the position where I am today.”

Basketball is one of the most popular sports in Germany and Davies' three years there will allow him to progress his training in an elite environment.

Kieran Cahill, head of physical education at Folkestone Academy, part of Turner Schools, added: “This is brilliant news and recognition of Kalel's fantastic natural talent and unwavering determination to succeed in basketball -ball.

“Kalel is a superb ambassador for sport and a great example of the importance of our sports academies in nurturing young talent.

“We are all very proud of him and look forward to seeing how his sporting career develops.”
