Deveon Ambrose Chambers, 25, pleaded guilty to three counts of trafficking opium/heroin, fleeing to elude, possession of a controlled substance on prison premises and a misdemeanor charge of impaired driving. In June 2021, the Asheville Police Department stopped a vehicle for a fictitious tag. After law enforcement observed Chambers resisting commands and behaving erratically, officers handcuffed his hands.

Officers then allegedly observed Chambers drop a small bag outside the vehicle and kick it under the vehicle in an attempt to hide it. Once Chambers was secured, law enforcement located the following items in and near the vehicle: 30.46 grams of fentanyl, 23.81 grams of marijuana, $2,062.97 in cash and a scale with white residue on it.
