Arsenal have asked about Barcelona prospect Mikayil Faye.

The athletic left-back, who can also play as a centre-back, played for Barcelona B this season and was ready to move to the senior team under coach Xavi who rates the teenager highly.

Barca are set to sell this summer and while they believe the 19-year-old has a big future at the club, they acknowledge his sale could bring £17 million or more to their coffers as interest rises.

Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen and Liverpool have all been tracking Faye's progress with Bayern, in particular, collecting a lot of information.

Mail Sport has already revealed that several teams, including Manchester United, are looking for the powerful centre-back who can also play at left-back.

United scouts saw the 19-year-old score a spectacular goal on his international debut for Senegal against Gabon in March and he followed it up with a thunderous free-kick for Atletic Barcelona against Osasuna a week later.

“He has already played a few friendlies,” Xavi told Spanish media. “He is a competent footballer, he is aggressive, he is fast, he can get the ball out well. He could help us at some point. He has the level, without a doubt.

Faye is currently away with the Senegal national team as they prepare for the World Cup qualifiers and Arsenal will be monitoring him closely.

They also like Quilindschy Hartman from Feyenoord, but the Dutch international is injured until next year.
