Arrested Development returns for SummerNight 2024 | News

SCHENECTADY — Arrested Development, which had to pull out of last year's SummerNight due to flight issues, will now headline Schenectady County's 2024 event on July 12, the Legislature announced Wednesday. Schenectady County.

The hip-hop group missed last year's SummerNight at the last minute when the group's flight to Albany was canceled.

Wednesday's announcement for 2024 means the band are now set to keep their vow to return after missing the 2023 show.

“We will meet you at another time – the will is there, the weather was not favorable,” band member Speech said in a 2023 video statement after that cancellation. “Thank you everyone for supporting us. We love you.”

Arrested Development, who first formed in 1991, is known for “People Everyday,” “Natural” and “Honeymoon Day,” among other tracks.

The group has already won a Grammy for Best New Artist and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.

Although Arrested Development's line-up has changed over the years, its sound has remained rooted in hip-hop, with lyrics focused on peace and spirituality.

The annual summer block party at State and Jay streets has been a Schenectady staple for nearly 20 years.

Previous headliners for the event include Better Than Ezra, Smash Mouth, Spin Doctors and Blues Traveler, the latter of whom headlined last week's free Belmont on Broadway concert in Saratoga Springs to kick off the weekend. end of the Belmont Stakes.
