The next day, authorities were alerted to a body discovered on the trail. Authorities later identified the body as that of Morin.

His death was later ruled a homicide.

Eleven days later, the sheriff's office said DNA found at the crime scene matched an assault and home invasion in Los Angeles.

At a news conference, Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler told media that the case involved a woman and a 9-year-old girl who were assaulted.

It was not until February 2024 that the sheriff's office released a portrait of the man suspected in this case.

Not only was he a fugitive in Maryland, but Hernandez, 23, was also in ICE custody, according to online records.

Officials say Martinez arrived in the United States illegally in February 2023 after being suspected of another murder in El Salvador.

He will be charged with first degree rape and murder and is currently being held without bail.

Sheriff Gahler said Hernandez will be extradited to Maryland in the coming days, but no date has been confirmed.
