Arrest made in shooting that left 1 dead, 6 injured in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that left one person dead and six others injured earlier this month, the Birmingham Police Department (BPD) announced Friday.

Armonta Davis, 21, is charged with attempted murder and two counts of first-degree assault. His bail is $120,000.

On May 5, BPD officers were dispatched to several ShotSpotter alerts in the 700 and 800 blocks of 3rd Avenue West just after 2 a.m. They found a sedan that had crashed into a utility pole, with David Westbrook, 24, fatally shot inside.

Early in the morning, six men were transported to local hospitals with gunshot wounds. Police believe all of the men were injured when shots were fired at a Shell gas station at 800 3rd Avenue West.

On Wednesday, Davis turned himself into custody after detectives released photos of a person of interest in the case. He was transported to the Birmingham City Jail and placed on a 48-hour felony extension.

Detectives presented evidence to the Jefferson County Prosecutor's Office, which issued the arrest warrants for Davis. He will be transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
