NATCHEZ — Natchez police have arrested one person as part of an ongoing investigation into a Friday night shooting that left two men and a dog injured.

Wesley Douglas Jr. was arrested for aggravated assault in connection with the shooting that occurred shortly after 6 p.m. Friday at 412 Walnut St., Commander Jerry Ford said Sunday afternoon.

Hunter Craft and William Rouse were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds after the incident. The dog was taken to a local veterinarian for treatment. Police Chief Cal Green said shortly after the incident that it was unclear whether the dog was hit by gunfire or broken glass. The status of the injured is unknown at this time.

Ford said the initial investigation revealed that Craft resided at the Walnut Street residence where he and an unidentified female witness got into an altercation. During the altercation, the woman called Rouse and he came to the house, picked her up and took her to a friend's house, Ford said. Afterwards, Rouse returned to the Walnut Street house with Douglas and an altercation ensued between Rouse and Craft.

At some point during the altercation, Ford said Douglas retrieved a gun and shot Craft.

“The investigation is still ongoing,” Ford said, adding that further arrests could be made.
