Arrest made in I-25 shooting case; suspect identified

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — A suspect, who was arrested after allegedly shooting at another car at I-25 and South Academy, has been identified as Nelson Boyer, 40, according to the District Attorney's Office. El Paso County Sheriff (EPSO).

On Friday June 14, EPSO released more information about the charges, including attempted murder, that Boyer now faces. He also faces charges of first-degree assault, unlawful discharge of a firearm and reckless endangerment for the Thursday, June 13, shooting.

Boyer was arrested at 5:20 p.m. Thursday after detectives were able to identify him and determine his location at a residence on Chadwick Drive in the Stratmoor Valley neighborhood, near the original scene.

According to EPSO, shortly after 11:20 a.m. Thursday, the Sheriff's Office received a report of a shooting in the area of ​​South Academy and I-25 and a motorcyclist shooting at another car in the sector.

Shortly after, the Sheriff's Office received another call from the victim at a home in the Security-Widefield area of ​​unincorporated El Paso County. When officers arrived, they provided medical treatment to the victim, who had a single, non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

The victim was then transported to hospital and is in stable condition. No other community members or deputies were injured, according to the sheriff's office.
