Arrest carried out following shots fired in Cordele

CORDELE, Ga. (WALB) – Deputies from the Crisp County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) assisted the Cordele Police Department with a shooting incident on Sunday, June 9.

Around 1:20 a.m., deputies were asked to help disperse a large crowd in the area of ​​South 7th Street, according to a news release.

While police were on scene, they heard several gunshots. A deputy saw a man fire a gun several times into the air.

Rakim Jackson, 36, of Cordele, is charged with reckless driving. According to the release, he was taken into custody and transported to the Crisp County Detention Center without incident.

During the arrest, additional gunshots were reported in the area, but no further arrests were made.

Police were called to two residences near the incident where bullet holes and shell casings were found.

“The Crisp County Sheriff's Office is warning citizens of the dangers of shooting into the air, as falling bullets can be as deadly as those fired directly. Firing shots into the air poses serious risks to innocent bystanders, including children,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
