Authorities say a person pointing a gun at officers was shot and killed by Pomona police on Sunday, June 9, and an investigation has been launched.

The shooting happened around 7:45 p.m. along the 600 block of West Holt Avenue, near the intersection of White Avenue, according to Pomona Police Chief Michael Ellis. The person was shot at least once after pointing the firearm at police.

The suspect was taken to hospital and is believed to be in stable condition, police said. Their identities were not immediately released by authorities.

No officers were injured and a gun was found at the scene, Ellis said.

News video from the scene showed a white pickup truck involved in a collision. Further details about what led to the shooting were not immediately released.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department planned to take over the investigation, Pomona police said.
