Armed criminal arrested after allegedly threatening to shoot wife

A royal man was arrested Wednesday on several criminal charges after he allegedly attacked his wife and threatened to shoot her, forcing her to lock herself in the bathroom.

Gary Vernon Fuller, 80, of 297 Arrowpoint Road, who is a convicted felon, was arrested shortly before 1:30 p.m. and charged with second-degree domestic battery, punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment, possession of a firearm by certain persons, aggravated assault against a family or household member, and first-degree terroristic threats, each of which carries a sentence of up to six years in prison.

Fuller was being held without bail and appeared Wednesday in Garland County District Court where a felony review hearing was set for June 21. He lists no local criminal history, according to court records, but the affidavit says he was a convicted felon outside of Texas. .

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday, Garland County Sheriff's Deputy Alex Finney was dispatched to the Arrowpoint residence regarding a “physical dispute.”

During the ride, dispatchers told him the 68-year-old victim had locked herself in the bathroom and her husband, identified as Fuller, was trying to “get at her through the door.”

Finney said he could hear a woman screaming inside the residence, so he went inside and saw Fuller “banging on the bathroom door.” He ordered Fuller to move away from the door and he allegedly did not obey.

Finney approached him and allegedly saw a black Smith and Wesson .38 revolver in his shorts pocket, so he took him to the ground and took him into custody. The woman was then released from the bathroom.

Sgt. Clayton Green and Captain Scotty Dodd arrived on scene to help Finney interview the victim. She allegedly stated that she and Fuller had argued and that he would not allow her to leave the residence.

She alleges he attacked her and began hitting her on the back. She said he then threatened to shoot and kill her as she locked herself in the bathroom. The victim reportedly complained of back pain and Finney observed “old bruises” on his face.
