Arkansas State Police update number of injured in fatal Fordyce shooting

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – During a news conference Sunday, Arkansas State Police officials released additional details about Friday's deadly shooting in Fordyce, which left four people dead and several injured.

During the briefing, ASP Col. Mike Hagar said the number of people shot included 12 civilians and two law enforcement officers.


The four civilians include Shirley Taylor, 62, Callie Weems, 23, Roy Sturgis, 50, and Ellen Shrum, 81.

ASP officials said five female and three male civilians, aged 20 to 65, survived their injuries in the incident. Five of them are still hospitalized, including one woman in critical condition.

Officer James Johnson of the Fordyce Police Department was released from the hospital Saturday evening after being treated for a gunshot wound. Officer Jacob Murry, also of the Fordyce Police Department and the Dallas County Sheriff's Office, was also treated for minor gunfire-related injuries.

The suspect, Travis Posey, 44, of New Edinburg, faces four counts of capital murder and additional charges are pending. He was also treated for non-life-threatening injuries after an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement and was transported to the Ouachita County Detention Center.
