FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A woman charged with murder for allegedly stabbing a man early Monday morning was upset about the money she gave him to buy crack cocaine, according to newly released Superior Court documents. Allen.

A man was fatally stabbed shortly after 2 a.m. in the 1400 block of Fletcher Avenue, Fort Wayne police said. Yvonne Broadnax, 47, was arrested shortly after and charged with murder.

A woman, identified in court documents as a witness to the killing, told police that Broadnax stabbed the man in the neck and then walked away from the apartment toward Anthony Boulevard.

The witness added that she was at the apartment Sunday evening with Broadnax, the victim and another man. She said the group drank and smoked crack and at one point, Broadnax — who also goes by the name Zoey, according to court documents — left to get $20. When she returned, she gave the victim the money and asked him to get her crack from someone else's house.

The victim left, but when he returned, it did not appear he had the drugs, the witness told police in court documents. When Broadnax asked the man to return the $20, he allegedly refused and told Broadnax to leave.

The witness said the man told Broadnax he would instead buy cocaine for himself and smoke it in front of her.

Seconds later, Broadnax stabbed him, the witness said, using an already open folding knife.

Another witness said in court documents that she was in a nearby apartment and heard the first witness screaming, “She stabbed him, call 911,” asking for help. When the neighboring resident opened her door, she told police in court documents that she saw a woman, later identified as Broadnax, carrying a knife in her hand with a blank look on her face as she was passing.

In total, four residents saw a woman believed to be Broadnax walking away from the scene, according to court documents.

According to court documents, police at the scene found the man lying on the ground. Although doctors tried to save his life, he was pronounced dead shortly before 3 a.m.

Meanwhile, another officer found Broadnax with blood on his clothing near the intersection of Anthony Boulevard and Alliger Street, according to court documents.

In a nearby trash can that had been overturned, police found a bag of clothes and a black fur jacket that matched what witnesses said Broadnax was wearing, according to court documents.

The woman who witnessed the stabbing told police that Broadnax had the knife earlier in the day during a communal meal, and that the victim asked her to put it away because there were children in the surrounding area.

When investigators interviewed Broadnax at the police station, she allegedly told them several times that she “just wanted to go to jail.”
