Archaeologists: Archaeologists excavate 4,000-year-old cutting weapon at Sennanur site | Salem News

Krishnagiri: Archaeological experts on Monday excavated a 4,000-year-old stone cutting weapon measuring about 6 cm long and 4 cm wide at the Sennanur site near Uthangarai in the district. The Tamil Nadu state archaeological department has been carrying out excavations in eight places in the state, including Sennanur, since June 18. The excavations were launched after the discovery of bricks dating from the Sangam period in the area in 2023. “Terracotta objects, russet-coated painted ware and red and black ware were also discovered at the Sennanur site” , said a site manager. Following these findings, the archaeological department started excavations on 20 acres in Sennanur, during which the stone cutting weapon was found. According to experts, the current discovery could be one of the tools that ancient people used for agriculture and hunting during the New Stone Age period.
