AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder in the death of his father, the Austin Police Department said in a statement Wednesday.

According to Austin police, officers arrived at the home on Windrift Way in south Austin around 5:39 p.m. Monday and found footprints leading into the home's garage and living room. Officers found Hayden Craig Lerond, 22, “lying on the floor with blood on his knees.” He was later taken to a hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries, police said.

Austin-Travis County EMS also responded to the scene and found James Lerond, 51, lying in the street “and began life-saving measures,” police said.

Investigators believe, after examining the scene and interviewing witnesses, that Hayden Lerond stabbed and killed his father, James Lerond, APD said. Lerond was booked into the Travis County Jail on a first-degree murder charge, police said.

KXAN reached out to Hayden Lerond's attorney who said there is no comment on the case at this time.
