Apartment damaged following 1-alarm fire in San Francisco – NBC Bay Area

An apartment was damaged following a single-alarm fire in San Francisco's Outer Sunset neighborhood Saturday afternoon.

The incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. in a building in the 3600 block of Taraval Street.

According to the San Francisco Fire Department, more than 40 firefighters were on scene to contain the fire.

No injuries were reported.

The fire damaged a two-bedroom apartment on the second floor, where four adults and two children lived. The family told NBC Bay Area that they had lived there for about two years and were unsure where they would go. One of the displaced family members said he was a teacher in the San Francisco Unified School District and some of his lesson plans and equipment were burned in the fire.

The investigation is looking into the causes of the fire.

“It's fortunate there were no injuries, but any fire is one fire too many,” said Capt. Jonathan Baxter of the San Francisco Fire Department.

“If we can prevent fires from happening again, that will be the best outcome,” Baxter continued.

The fire was near Riptide Bar, the bar was closed and suffered minimal water damage, officials said.

The fire brought back familiar, scary feelings for businesses in this neighborhood.

In 2015, a fire burned The Riptide and the neighboring business.
